I hope you all are doing great and that wherever you are are getting some kind of warm weather now that summer is closer! I’ve participated in another blog tour. It’s been a while but that’s due to my thesis. My thesis is coming along nicely. I’m approaching the deadline which is on May 15 and I can’t wait to get this massive lump of the weight of my shoulders!
American Maisie Clark is struggling to make it as an author in New York. She had huge plans for an exclusive writer’s mentorship program, but when that falls through she is determined to make find a way into the program on her own. This decision takes her to Cornwall in England on a hunt for her favourite author who might be able to mentor her for the program. While in Cornwall she stumbles upon an unexpected opportunity that might provide her with just what she is looking for without her knowing it.
A Little Hotel in Cornwall is the kind of book I would recommend to my mom. My mother reads good-natured books that end well and don’t involve too much drama. There can be some frictions within the storyline (preferably love-related), but blood, death and screams is not my mother’s taste. As you now probably understand this book is just that kind of book. To me, this is the kind of read I read and forget. Not because it was bad, it just didn’t stand out to me. I wasn’t blown away by the storyline, but I enjoyed it. It was charming in its own romantic way, and it did indeed tickle my imaginative brain cells. I think this was what I appreciated the most while reading the book; the author’s ability to make me fall in love with the scenery the storyline was set in. I’ve said this a lot lately, I’m aware of that, but the authors I’ve read lately have been exceptionally good at it! Strange how one just finds them in a row right?
The book was an easy and quick read for me and therefore I enjoyed it. I did not have to engage many brain cells while reading this, and I don’t have too many to spare, to be honest, due to my thesis. Thus I’m in need of simple books. I would definitely bring this book with me to the beach (after all summer is on the rise!) and I would also enjoy this at a café with a nice frappuccino. Oh, that sounds good right about now…..
Characterwise I did enjoy Maisie, our main female character. First of all; she’s bookish so that doesn’t need an explanation for why I love her. Second of all; what a beautifully messy mind who knows her literature. In my opinion, she is whimsical in a charming way. Apparently, I’m the same way at work according to my late boss, maybe that’s why I find it appealing? I loved her sense of adventure and her somewhat careless attitude towards her future. She’s willing to take a chance and just throw herself into it, which I support 110%! We only live once and we have to take some chances once in a while. I hope to find more characters like Maisie in the nearest future!
A Little Hotel in Cornwall is charming and an easy and quick read. I think this will be a good book to get out of a reading slump or when you’re struggling to get engaged with other books you’re reading. I will surely recommend it to my mom!
